In the early to mid 90s, TBS aired an environmentally friendly cartoon called Captain Planet. It featured a group of kids who had each received a special ring that represented one of the classic earth elements (earth, wind, fire and water). Each element was powerful on its own but, when combined, they were capable of stopping crime, pollution even natural disasters. This awesome 1969 Camaro RS works in the same vein, combining hot-button names and phrases such as "fuel-injected big block", "pro-touring" and "Baldwin-Motion" into a singular street fighter capable of serving its own brand of justice. Fresh out of a restoration with a potent F.A.S.T-injected 454cid V8, Tremec six-speed transmission and a suspension featuring tons of fresh Detroit Speed parts, you may not be able to stop crime or natural disasters, but there's a good chance you can outrun them.

First impressions are important and this Camaro certainly makes a strong one. Chevrolet did a great job squaring off the soft curves of the previous models and creating an entirely new look for the '69 model year. The restoration process further evened out those lines before spraying an even coat of gloss black across them. The paintwork presents well, offering clean reflections all around. Of course, there are plenty of black Camaros around it's the Motion stripes that make this one pop. At the sides, traditional "hockey stick" stripes get things started while a white hood stripe and matching white tail stripe round out the signature Phase III package. It's an ultra-aggressive look and one that is guaranteed to turn heads every time you back out of the garage.

Take a closer look and you'll find a full catalog of high-quality ornamentation handling the details. At the front of the car, the familiar Rally Sport grille features hideaway headlights and a fresh RS badge center-justified. A show-quality chrome bumper hangs beneath that grille, just above a pair of round driving lights. Follow the body lines up and you'll find a mean-looking fiberglass stinger hood with chrome hood pins covering the engine bay, drawing the eye toward the windshield wrapped in quality stainless trim. Overall, the trim pieces show well and are free of noteworthy flaws as is the glass work. Take a step back and admire the badge-free side profile. With nothing but glossy black paint and white stripes from the beltline to wheel moldings and rocker trim, this Camaro looks exceptionally clean without resorting to body modifications. At the rear, rectangular tail lights, an RS badge and a chrome bumper all sit in the shadow of a high-rise rear spoiler.

Joel Rosen and company sealed their place in hot rodding history by building F-bodies with the biggest engines available. While Motion's 1969 offerings were capped at 427cid, this Camaro stays true to the "no replacement for displacement" ideology by donning 454 cubic inches between its fenders. Underneath the K&N open element air cleaner, the F.A.S.T fuel injection system delivers atomized fuel through an Edelbrock intake manifold. At the sides, Skip White aluminum heads are tucked beneath rugged-looking GM valve covers. As a modernized car, there are plenty of belt-driven accessories up front including a chrome alternator, power steering pump and air conditioning compressor. Those accessories face an 18-inch electric fan mounted against an aluminum radiator and all new core support. To the passenger side, a new MSD 6A ignition box is tucked neatly in front of the inner fender. With a mix of satin and gloss black paint setting the backdrop, the bay has a purely performance look backed up by turning the key. The 454 roars to life with an intimidating growl traveling through coated headers and a dual exhaust system.

Peak underneath and you'll find a clean undercarriage with rock solid floors, satin black paint and a healthy list of new hardware. In the center, a Tremec T56 six-speed manual transmission allows full command of the big block while power is put to the ground through a 12-bolt rear with Eaton Posi and 3.42 gears. Around the stout driveline, an upgraded suspension utilizes Detroit Speed components to make sure track days go your way. Up front, tubular control arms, Koni Classic shocks, two-inch drop springs and a beefy front sway bar make for a tight front end. Out back, the impressive QUADRALink rear suspension utilizes coilovers, a panhard bar and unique geometry to rival even the best modern hardware. Further aiding you through the corners is the power steering setup and power four-wheel disc brakes which rein the big block in with no problem. The updated chassis is connected to the ground through BF Goodrich tires wrapped around a set of 17-inch Budnik wheels that complement the high-profile Motion look perfectly.

As far as stock configurations go, the deluxe interior offered in the first-gen Camaro is about as good as it gets. Toss in a few modern amenities and it becomes nearly ideal. In this '69, those upgrades began with a set of fourth-generation Camaro bucket seats, wrapped to match the backseat's vintage material. In between the seats, a deluxe console makes room for the Hurst shifter and console gauges which keep taps on battery output, fuel, temperature and oil pressure. At either side, attractive molded door panels create a more upscale feel than the standard panels, matching the tone set by the modern seats. The driver is connected to the front wheels through a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel mounted to the factory column. Behind it, the squared gauge cluster remains where GM put it. Speed and revs are monitored by a set of AutoMeter gauges while the factory clock remains in the center pod. Controls for the rear defroster and air conditioning reside just to the right. There is a delete panel where the radio would normally be and, for once, there is no hidden six-disc CD changer or any other trickery just the sound of that big block to keep your ears busy. Behind the backseat, the trunk is all business. Coated floors and a battery box are the only items to be found.

With its powers combined, this is a brutal street machine perfect for anyone looking to dominate their local cruise in scene in style. From its borrowed Baldwin Motion looks to its big block and six-speed combo, making a big first, second and third impression is what this F-body does best.
