1962 Chevrolet Nova Coupe
This 1962 Chevy II is an incredible custom, built to the highest show standards by a dedicated craftsman. The car has been featured in multiple car magazines and won Best Paint at the Detroit Autorama. The body was finished in a very clean style, complete with shaved door handles, removal of all emblems, a steel cowl hood, and custom one-piece tail light lenses with shortened housings. The cowl louvers have been filled and the fire wall has been filled and smoothed. Open up the hood and the inner fender covers in the engine compartment are custom pieces and have a mirror-like sheen. The paint on the car is a PPG 9300 black and has been hand finished to a brilliant shine that is as smooth as glass. For protection and longevity of the finish, the undercarriage has been finished in POR-15 gloss black.
The Chevy was built on a custom frame with floors to accommodate the beautiful work. The rear end is mini-tubbed and the front end has a Checkered Racing front clip with rack and pinion, QA1 coil over shocks and tubular control arms. The rear end has Air Ride Shockwaves and the rear end is a narrowed 9" Ford 28 spline unit with 3:00 gears, Posi traction and Moser axles. Hauling the little monster to a stop is a set of Wilwood disc brakes on all four corners. Before assembly, the front sub frame and suspension components were powder coated in high gloss black.
Powering the Chevy is a Gen VI L-29 Block that was ground smooth and painted. The engine has a cast iron crank, Speed Pro hypereutectic pistons w/Teflon coated skirts, and floating wrist pins. The builder used Eagle H-Beam rods w/bronze bushings, Edelbrock aluminum heads, polished ports, and Edelbrock intake. The cam is a Comp Cams hydraulic roller with GM hydraulic roller lifters, and full stainless steel roller rockers. Ignition and timing are courtesy of a MSD Pro Billet distributor and an MSD 6AL box. Providing air and fuel is 850 cfm Demon carb and sending fuel from the rear is a Aeromotive fuel pump with braided teflon fuel lines. The headers are 2" Jet Hot coated units and the exhaust is a 3" mandrel bent set up with x-pipe and Dynatech mufflers. The motor runs best on 93 octane and is very responsive and powerful. It runs nice and cool and makes a great cruiser that really rips off the line and down the tarmac. The tranny is a Turbo 400 with a shift kit and a TCI 3000 stall converter.
The Nova rides on Billet Specialties Vintec wheels that are 17x7 in the front and 18x9.5 in the rear. The tires are 235's in the front and 295's in the rear.
Last but certainly not the least is the beautifully appointed interior. The front seats are highly modified Grand Prix units and the rear seats are custom built buckets. The custom console has a nice flow to it and the awesome looking dash has been smoothed, filled and fitted with custom gauge pods. The gauges are high-end Classic Instruments units and the steering column is by Ididit. Prior to interior installation, the inside of the car was thoroughly lined with Dynamat for a nicely insulated interior.
The car runs and drives out perfectly and can be driven anywhere you wish - kind of the best of both worlds when it comes to show cars!
